The 5 Fashion Mistakes You Must Avoid This Year

Don’t get it twisted, the way you dress is always going to be a big deal the higher you climb the corporate/business ladder. Whether you’re a business person or a socialite, every level of engagement has it’s own fashion expectations.

Sadly, no one will tell you their perception of you in this regard, but the way they treat you will.

The goal for every high flyer like you should be to maximize every opportunity as they come wherever you go. And I can tell you with good authority that your fashion sense plays a key role in this regard.

To avoid shortchanging yourself when these opportunities present themselves, I will share with you these five mistakes which you must avoid at all times.

1. Going Out All So Casual Because It’s Your Side of Town

The truth is, you never know who you will meet or who will see you when you leave the house. Sure, you don’t have to dress to kill every time you are leaving the house, especially for casual errands, but always step out in outfits that can allow you strike a connection with someone important at any time.

2. “I Will Wear What I Like, People’s Opinion Don’t Count”

That’s a lie. No matter how eccentric you are, people’s opinion will always count when it comes to how they perceive your appearance. Different occasions and engagements require different outfits.

Sometimes you even have to find out the particular colours and styles that appeal to your target connections.

Remember, the goal is to win people over even before you deal. Impression is everything.

3. Wearing Stuff Just Because They’re in Vogue.

The rule of the thumb here is to know the difference between what’s in vogue and what’s trendy. My advice is to always step out in what suits your body shape and particular occasion not because it’s in vogue on trendy for others. I can’t stress the latter enough.

4. The More Expensive the Price Tag, The Greater the Quality

Big lie! Some people have a gift for marketing – they can sell shit to you with their sugar-coated tongues. For these types of clothes sellers you’re mostly likely to fall prey of “The More Expensive the Price Tag, The Greater the Quality” bug. Don’t.

As a professional wardrobe consultant, I have come to understand that for many people the task of identifying quality labels is not easy. More so with the flooding of the markets with fakes. You even hear of terms like “original fake” now. Trash!

My advice to you: never equate price with quality. It’s either you hit the “no fakes” malls or you outsource your wardrobe biz to a pro. Period!

5 Removing ‘Smell’ From the Equation

This one right here is a bomb. How many times we see peeps looking all gorgeous and fab only to get close and what hits you is the smell of armpits or B.O! No doubt about it, this is always going to be a deal breaker, especially when the goal is to connect with people who have a refined taste.

Don’t sell yourself short, good (great) smell is a crucial part of your fashion game. Treat perfumes and deodorants as an option at your own peril.

As I said before, 99% of the time, people won’t tell you that you don’t smell great, but their actions will! The clue to knowing if your game is tight here is the fact they’ll surely tell when you smell great!

In the end I know you’ll agree with me that these fashion mistakes I have listed here are what you must avoid for life, and not just this year!

Ride with me, more juice coming your way!
