The Thing About Watches

Yeah, it’s the age of the smartphones, “Who still needs wristwatches?” you may ask. Well, I’ll urge you to perish those thoughts before those who know hear them! That’s because the thing about wristwatches is that there’s more to wearing them than just telling time.

Believe me, wristwatches will never go out of fashion. They will forever be a key component when it comes to how people perceive your fashion game. Not wearing them at all may be your style. Fine. But you will miss all the connections that wearing them can spark, especially in a group that values them. That’s right, watches will always remain relevant in the league of extraordinary gentlemen. Except you don’t want to play here. In this league, they are treated as fashion statements, and you should treat them as same too.

Now, even if you already subscribe to watches being a key element of great dressing, you must know there are codes to making them serve as extensions of your personal charm. No jokes, wearing them without caring about the quality of their make lowers your credibility. And this is where many people let themselves down.

The Basics

To get the best from wearing watches, you need to understand these basic watch codes:

1. NEVER wear a fake watch. If you can’t afford a designer make, go for some other elegant unknown brand. If only you can understand the level of damage wearing a fake version of a designer watch (or anything for that matter) does to your rep!

2. Always wear simple but elegant watches with formal outfits (suits and corporate wears). In other words, NEVER wear sporty watches with these types of outfits.

3. Sporty watches fit squarely into the casual dressing code. If these are the only ones you can afford for the time being, then you must wear them for these purposes only.

4. Always keep it simple. There’s no point wearing something so bogus just to draw attention when emphasis on simplicity and quality can deliver same effect.

5. The type of occasion also matters a lot. You may want to do the bling bling for the night outs and the simpler designs for the boardroom meeting.

Those are the basics. But of course, depending on the industry where you play, nothing might actually be cast in stone for you. But my advice would always be for you to play safe with the watch codes.

Now, for those who might want to ask, “But Arome, how do I know which watch is original or fake?” Don’t worry, I’ll be doing justice to that in an upcoming post where I talk about ‘How To Differentiate Between Original Fashion Brands and Fakes‘. Stay with me.
